The last time I wrote for you was about four months ago. A lot of things have happened between October 2016 and February 2017. Here’s a summary of what I’ve been up to in Germany!
Adidas Internship / Co-Op
If you read my last blog post, you would know that I started my time in Germany with my internship at adidas in August 2016. I am nearly complete with my internship at adidas. My official intern contract will end Feb. 24th. As sad as I am that this amazing opportunity is nearly over, I am looking forward to starting my semester in Darmstadt, Germany on March 1st! I am also excited to inform you that I will continue to work for adidas while I study abroad in Darmstadt. This makes saying goodbye to adidas easier, as I will remain connected to the company and will continue working on projects for them.
Aside from my internship experience thus far, I also enjoyed Christmas with my German grandma (Oma). We celebrated by going to church on Christmas Eve, preparing a delicious Christmas meal, and relaxing over the holiday season. This was the first time I can remember celebrating Christmas with my Oma, and we both really enjoyed being together for Christmas.
Over New Year’s I traveled to Stuttgart to visit some friends. We celebrated New Year’s Eve by shooting fireworks off in the streets. One thing that was so surprising to me was the massive amounts of people shooting fireworks of the roofs of their house, on the streets, and in their backyards. By the end of all the fireworks, there was this massive cloud of smoke that hung around throughout the New Year’s Day. There were seriously so many fireworks! It made for a memorable time in Stuttgart.
Shortly after my time in Stuttgart, my parents came and visited, along with some family friends. While I still had a week of vacation left from my internship, I could join my parents on a road trip to various places in Germany. You can see some the pictures below of my adventures with them. The first stop was a tour to the adidas headquarters campus (of course!). Following that we spent a day in Bamberg. The city of Bamberg is so old but extremely picturesque. I took so many photos! A fun fact about the city is that the Three Musketeers was filmed on location in this city. The next day we traveled to Wartburg Castle, and finally stopped in Wittenberg, Germany, where Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses. There was so much history and information presented to me on our trip. We also went out to eat every day for almost every meal! I really enjoyed traveling with my parents for a week. At the end of my travels with them, they dropped me off back in Herzogenaurach, as my vacation time from adidas was over. For the remainder of January, I continued working at adidas. I have had such a great time and wonderful experiences working at the headquarter offices.
Apart from internship ending shortly at adidas, I will be traveling to Darmstadt in a week and really look forward to uniting with some of my fellow Stouties. I also am looking forward to meeting other international students. I will be sure to update you again soon and will let you know how my time in Darmstadt is going!
Talk to you soon and thanks for reading! Peace out!
