My name is Jens and for the Fall 2016 semester I am completing my Co-Op Internship Experience at Adidas Headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany! I started the internship on August 1st, 2016 and will be here until the end of January 2017. The experience has been such an exciting and eye-opening opportunity for me, as I learn more about working in Germany while at the same time contributing to design projects that reach the far corners of the world.
I work in a team known as Creative Direction which falls under the Global Design sector here at Adidas. My job focuses on internal design operations and communications, which is provided to over 55,000 employees within the company. Some of the perks of working here at Adidas is that you get to meet so many famous athletes. For example, James Harden, a pro basketball player, came to visit in September. We also had a visit from Wayde van Niekerk, a track and field sprinter from South Africa. He is the current world record holder and Olympic champion in the 400-meter dash. On another note, I have received a few pairs of shoes and quite a few Adidas clothes–all for free. The culture at Adidas is very upbeat, and the company looks after its employees. I am learning so many new skills that I will take with me throughout my remaining studies at Stout as well as my future endeavors towards my career. This experience of interning at Adidas is like a dream come true. I am so fortunate that I get to meet so many international people from all over the world while working on projects that impact the internal design structure of the company.
Herzogenaurach, Germany, where I currently reside, is a small town of about 25,000 inhabitants, but is extremely close to two larger cities, Erlangen and Nuremberg. In the pictures below you can see the Herzogenaurach town center. One interesting fact about this town is that both Puma and Adidas have built their global headquarters here. The companies started many years ago by two brothers, who became quite angry at each other and decided to split and build their own sports brands. Many years later, the history remains and the two brands continue to thrive here and throughout the world.
Overall, I am enjoying everything about this internship experience. Even though I won’t be able to celebrate the holidays back home with friends and family, I will be spending time with my grandmother here in Germany. In the coming weeks I will be attending the world-famous Christmas Festival in Nuremberg. I look forward to sharing that adventure as well!
I wish my fellow Stouties continued educational success, wherever your studies may take you!
